There exists, however, a special group of such verbs known as backwards directional verbs, in which the movement is started in the place of the object instead of the subject, ending at the subject.

    "Do you understand me?"
    "The grandfather doesn't understand his grandson."

Some of the most common verbs belonging to this category are: "take", "choose", "buy", "call for", "copy", "invite", "steal", "guess", "levy taxes".
