Our group is engaged in research on Alzheimer's disease (AD), healthy aging and clinical neuroscience and cognitive perspective. The Alzheimer's Project and Family (ALFA) is a longitudinal cohort of children of patients with AD, 45 to 76 years old, to explore the preclinical stage of the disease with the aim of identifying new risk factors and biomarkers. The project began in April 2013 and so far more than 2,500 cognitively healthy subjects were characterized in detail, including a neuropsychological assessment, determination of the clinical risk factors and lifestyle, APOE genotype as well as the underlying structural and associated functional alterations measured by MRI in a subgroup. This study will improve our understanding of the processes involved before the onset of AD to develop interventions aimed at preventing or delaying the disease.
