We define orientation as the direction of the palm and the fingers: up, right, toward the signer, toward the front, etc. There are minimal sign pairs distinguishable only by their orientation, as we shall see:

    "Party" / "Hard"
    "Mother" / "Late"
    "Structure" / "French fries"
